Chiropractic Examination

When you come to the office you should expect to have blood pressure, pulse, reflexes, as well as specific orthopedic and neurological tests to assess:

  • Muscle tone
  • Muscle strength
  • Neurological integrity
  • Biomechanical discrepancies

Special Tests

Based on your history and examination, it may be necessary to have x-rays taken or to be sent out for a MRI or Blood work. These test can further narrow down exactly what treatment is necessary for your specific condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need chiropractic care if I’m not in pain?

Many people seek chiropractic care to improve mobility, posture, flexibility, recovery, and overall function before pain becomes severe. Preventative care is commonly used by athletes, active adults, and people with physically demanding jobs.

Why do people get adjusted regularly?

Patients often continue regular chiropractic care because they feel better moving, sleeping, exercising, and functioning when their body is moving properly and muscle tension is reduced.

Does insurance cover chiropractic care?

Many insurance plans include chiropractic benefits. Coverage varies depending on the patient’s insurance provider and treatment plan.

Do you accept auto accident cases?

Yes. Back to Balance Chiropractic and Wellness regularly helps patients recovering from auto accident injuries, including whiplash, headaches, neck pain, and back pain.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

Most patients do not need a referral to see a chiropractor in Utah. Patients can typically schedule directly with the office for an evaluation.

Why does my back crack so much?

Back cracking is often caused by movement in the joints, changes in pressure within the joint fluid, or tight muscles and stiffness around the spine. Occasional cracking is usually normal, especially after sitting for long periods or stretching. However, frequent stiffness, pain, or reduced mobility may indicate underlying spinal or muscular dysfunction that chiropractic care can help evaluate.

Is it bad to crack your own neck?

Occasionally cracking your neck is not always harmful, but repeatedly forcing or twisting your neck yourself may irritate joints, muscles, and surrounding tissues. Many people temporarily relieve tension without addressing the underlying cause of stiffness. Chiropractic care focuses on improving movement, posture, and muscle balance safely and effectively.

Why do I feel worse after a car accident days later?

Many auto accident injuries involve inflammation and soft tissue damage that may take 24–72 hours to fully develop. Adrenaline after a crash can temporarily mask symptoms, causing neck pain, headaches, stiffness, back pain, and soreness to appear later. This is common with whiplash injuries after car accidents.

Can stress cause neck and shoulder pain?

Yes. Stress commonly causes increased muscle tension in the neck, shoulders, and upper back. Many people experiencing stress-related tension also report headaches, tight muscles, jaw tension, poor sleep, and reduced mobility.

What causes headaches at the base of the skull?

Headaches at the base of the skull are commonly associated with neck tension, poor posture, muscle tightness, stress, whiplash injuries, and spinal dysfunction. Many patients seek chiropractic care to improve neck mobility and reduce tension contributing to these headaches.

Why do I wake up with back pain?

Morning back pain may be related to poor sleeping posture, mattress support, inflammation, tight muscles, spinal stiffness, or underlying joint dysfunction. Chronic morning stiffness is common in people who sit for long hours, perform repetitive work, or have limited mobility.

Can poor posture cause headaches?

Yes. Poor posture may place extra stress on the neck, shoulders, and upper back, leading to muscle tension and headaches. Forward head posture from phones, computers, and desk work is a common contributor to tension headaches and neck pain.

Is sitting all day bad for your spine?

Prolonged sitting may contribute to tight hips, weak core muscles, poor posture, reduced circulation, neck pain, and low back pain. Many office workers and people working from home experience spinal stiffness and muscle tension from long periods of sitting.

How often should you see a chiropractor?

The frequency of chiropractic visits depends on the patient’s condition, goals, activity level, and lifestyle. Some patients seek care for short-term pain relief, while others continue regular chiropractic care for mobility, recovery, posture, and preventative wellness.

What is the popping sound during an adjustment?

The popping sound during a chiropractic adjustment is commonly caused by the release of gas within the joint, similar to cracking knuckles. The sound itself is not the treatment — the goal of chiropractic care is improving movement, joint function, and mobility.

Is chiropractic care good for office workers?

Yes. Many office workers experience neck pain, headaches, shoulder tension, poor posture, and low back pain from prolonged sitting and computer use. Chiropractic care may help improve mobility, posture, and muscle tension associated with desk work.

Can chiropractic care help gym recovery?

Many active adults and athletes use chiropractic care to support recovery after workouts and training. Chiropractic care may help improve flexibility, movement, muscle recovery, and joint mobility while reducing tension and stiffness.

Why does stretching not fix tight muscles?

Muscles may stay tight because the underlying issue is not just flexibility. Poor posture, muscle imbalance, joint restriction, stress, inflammation, weakness, and movement dysfunction can all contribute to chronic tightness. Stretching alone often does not address the root cause.

Can chiropractic care help tech neck?

Yes. Tech neck is commonly caused by prolonged phone, tablet, and computer use leading to forward head posture and muscle strain. Symptoms may include neck pain, headaches, shoulder tension, stiffness, and upper back discomfort. Chiropractic care may help improve posture and mobility associated with tech neck.

What are symptoms of whiplash?

Whiplash symptoms may include neck pain, headaches, stiffness, dizziness, shoulder pain, reduced range of motion, fatigue, jaw tension, and upper back discomfort. Symptoms are commonly delayed after a car accident and may worsen over several days.

What helps inflammation naturally?

Healthy movement, sleep, hydration, proper nutrition, recovery, stress management, and targeted therapies may help support the body’s natural healing response. Many patients also seek chiropractic care, massage therapy, rehabilitation exercises, and SoftWave Therapy to help reduce inflammation naturally.

Why does my body feel stiff all the time?

Chronic stiffness may be related to poor posture, inflammation, stress, inactivity, repetitive movements, previous injuries, prolonged sitting, or reduced mobility. Many people notice stiffness worsening with stress, desk work, poor sleep, or lack of movement.
